Modified Fish (Floor or Bed)
Fish pose helps to gently reverse the tension and tightness in the shoulders and chest that often come from protecting the heart. When the heart feels vulnerable—whether from illness or from the weight of our emotions—we may unconsciously round the shoulders forward as if to shield it. Over time, this posture pattern can leave us closed and tense.
Fish offers a chance to soften that protective embrace and reopen the space of the heart. As the chest expands, we learn to trust ourselves to hold our tender feelings with compassion. In this openness, we can welcome both vulnerability and the lightness that comes with it, reconnecting to the natural flow of energy between the heart and the arms.
Benefits: Improves spinal flexibility, enhances blood flow to the heart and lungs, promotes circulation to the thyroid gland, supports posture in the upper back and shoulders, and opens the energetic pathway between the heart and arms.
Contraindications: Use the chair version if you have diabetes with retinopathy, cervical arthritis, carotid stenosis, history of stroke, glaucoma, detached retina, other eye diseases, a healing sternal wound, or frequent dizziness.
